Loooong Update!

So, since it's been almost a month since my last post, I have quite a bit to update with!

Last weekend Alyssa, Sarah, Jennie, and Nick went to Cuernavaca to visit the town where we studied freshman year. It was great because I got to see my host family too and got to spend time with him at night. Also, it was Jennie's birthday on Saturday so we had an awesome relaxing day at an amazing house, had dinner at her boyfriend's house there, and then went out to celebrate that night! It truly was a great weekend that finished with watching the Super Bowl. The only problem with that is they don't have the exciting commercials like in the States and instead, play the same boring local commercials over and over...que trist! (how sad!)

The weekend before that (Jan. 30-Feb 1) we went with a group of about 10 people to Xochitlan which is a small city about 3 hours away from campus. We had a family for quides that some of the other guys had met the weekend before so everything was real smooth. First, we went to this nature reserve and went to a small waterfall (cascada). It was real calm and peaceful. Later, visited a small town on the way there called, Apulco (not Acapulco!) where they are known for making their own liquor and wine (which we got to taste) and walked around the town and visited the churches. We had a younger boy, about 13, as a guide and he told us all about the history and how the indigenous language was being lost in the area. The next day we went to Las Grutas Karmidas (you can YouTube that for a quick video). It was awesome because the entrance had about 3 feet of water for about a 5 minute walk. That night we went to the family's house and listened to music, talked, and played games. It was very fun! Finally on Monday, we walked about 3 miles to the back of this farmland where there was a pong (poso verde) which is naturally cold all year around. Long story short, myself and two others decided to jump in and the water was probably below 60F but it was well worth it! I'll see if i can load the video clip on here and of course will get the pics up soon.

As for this weekend, the plan is to go to Vera Cruz for "El Carnival" which should be a blast! We're also going to try to go to Mexico's biggest aquarium along with visiting the pyramids in Tajín. Should be another fun-filled weekend!!

I think that's all for now! I'll try to keep up better on the blog from now on!

paz y amor!

  1. Did you jump into the "pong" or into a "pond"?
